Morven MacEwan is an award-winning Fine Artist living in her childhood home in the North East Highlands of Scotland. After graduating from the University of the Highlands and Islands’ (UHI) Moray School of Art in 2016, she went on to exhibit as an invited graduate at the Scottish Society of Artists (SSA) in Edinburgh. Returning home Morven took over as Project Manager at MC3 Creative Spaces from February 2017 till October 2018, the first artist led artist studios in her hometown, and continues to offer opportunities for artists in her local area.
Emotions and experiences are the integral core to the works created by Morven as she tries to understand and interpret the world around her. For Morven, her work is not about showing the world as it is, but instead showing what she sees. Working primarily with the land around her, Morven’s work creates a sensation of hushed calm as she creates works focusing in on the small details of the Scottish landscape. Mixing different mediums from photography, traditional oil painting and contemporary mixed media practises Morven’s voice runs through all her works as she shows us the beauty of nature on her doorstep.
Her current body of work is inspired by the rugged beauty of the Scottish highlands where she lives, and the historic folklore of her ancient kin. From the top of the Cairngorm and Mondaliath Mountains; to the coastal paths of the Moray Firth; to the ancient forests where the great Oak and Birch rule.
You can follow the development of this body of work on Morven’s social media accounts.
